The Earth Trust

The Earth Trust is based in south Oxfordshire and manages a large estate including Wittenham Clumps and Little Wittenham Nature Reserve. Its mission is to educate and engage people in their local landscape and inspire them to take action to protect it. More information about their work is available from the Earth Trust website.

We built the large pergola in the visitor centre courtyard. It measures approximately 4m by 12m. The trust were keen for the oak to come from local woodlands – we used some characterful local Oxfordshire oak. Construction uses very traditional pegged mortice and tenon joints.

We made two large benches for the courtyard which are used by visiting schoolchildren who picnic on them. The carvings were done by sculptor Matt Cave

These benches were made for the Sensory garden. The designs were inspired by clay shapes made by a team of people from Style Acre, which is a charity based in Didcot that provides services to adults with learning difficulties. Again the oak was sourced locally here in Oxfordshire.
